The International Society for Blood Transfusion’s standard for
blood bag identification is called ISBT 128. It defines the correct
data and bar code structures for identifying and tracking blood.
Solution
An ISBT 128 compliant label format is created with variable fields
to be entered when the blood is identified. A mobile application
allows the data to be entered and the label to be printed in a very
flexible way. The caregiver selects “Print Label” from the
application and enters all the required data. This solution is a
very simple “form” solution and is very easily scalable to send data
to the enterprise to start tracking the blood bag as it moves
through the healthcare facility.
