Symbol Global Positioning Systems (GPS) ModulesGPS or Global Positioning System refers to satellite based radio positioning system that provide 24 hour 3D position, velocity and time information to suitably equipped users anywhere on or near the surface of the Earth (and sometimes off the earth). The location is computed using a compact receiver and software to calculate the receiver's 3D position and rate of speed by processing signals received from orbiting satellites. Four GPS satellite signals are used to compute positions in 3D and the time offset in the receiver clock. GPS provides specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time. Software measures the difference in time from when the signal was received and when it was sent to calculate its relative distance from the particular satellite.
