The futuristic "handle-forward" design of the Symbol P360
scanner was awarded a gold medal in the 1998 Industrial Design
Excellence Awards (IDEA98) by Business Week magazine and the
Industrial Design Society of America. This handle features
ergonomic contours which mold securely to the hand and help
reduce fatigue. The Symbol P360's 17-key numeric keypad and
easy-to-read two-line by 20-character display are
top-mounted for more effective use. The Symbol P360 scanner
weighs just 12 oz./336 gm. The scanner also has other
features adding to its ergonomic and rugged design. The
Symbol P360 is sealed to IP54, allowing it to stand up to
extreme conditions such as dust, rain, heat and cold. With
the ability to withstand 6 ft (1.8 m) drops to concrete,
production can continue even if an accident occurs. The
Symbol P360 rugged scanner comes with a 12 hour life,
high-capacity, 1100 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery
which can be recharged in less than four hours through a
cable or while resting in the cradle.
The standard 1 MB Symbol P360 barcode scanner is equipped with ample
storage for inventory counts, stock transfers, and similar
data management applications. The Symbol P360 also has the
ability to provide sufficient memory for look-up files,
which can be downloaded to the scanner, and are critical to
certain real-time data capture and management applications,
such as inventory checks and receiving. For added
information storage, a 4 MB memory option is available.
The Symbol P360 is teamed with MCL-Designer, an easy-to-use
Windows-based application development tool, ensuring ease
and flexibility. Using MCL-Designer's intuitive graphical
user interface, custom programs can be created by all users,
ensuring an easy and flexible setup. The flexibility of the
Symbol P360's extends to the host interface. When data
transfer is ready, whether sending or receiving, a cable is
connected to the P360 or it is placed in the optional
communications cradle. The Symbol P360 then interfaces via
RS-232 or Symbol's Synapse "smart" cable to many hosts in
many different configurations. Up to 12 cradles can be
"daisy chained" to a single RS-232 port on the host.
