VEHICLE INTERFACE CRADLE
The Psion Teklogix WorkaboutMX Vehicle Interface Cradle (VIC) combines a dashboard mounting facility, serial communications (one or three ports) and vehicle power conditioning (12V only) in a single, compact unit. The VIC provides a simple solution for a large number of vehicle-based systems such as field service, courier, transportation, or emergency service applications.

9-pin RS232 serial ports (Port I & Port F). The unit has two 9-way D-type connectors (male), which provide the same RS232 signals to the outside world as are normally found on the RS232 connector of a Workabout expansion interface. These ports are accessed by the Workabout as standard serial devices, and are referred to as ports I and F.
Serial Port (15-Way)
The unit has a further (Port C) 15-way D-type RS232 connector (female). This provides the same functionality as the two RS232 serial ports, as well as optional functions, such as automatically switching the Workabout on when power is available. Vehicle Power Supply The unit accepts a 12v DC vehicle supply only, and is not suitable for connection to 24v. In the case of a 24v or 36v vehicle, the power to the unit will have to be taken from the vehicle's 12v rail, or a suitable DC/DC converter or dropper/regulator will have to be used.

EMC E marked V-COMM MODULES
The V-Comm range of modules provide a vehicle-based power and communications interface for the Psion HC & Workabout hand held computers. The V-Comm range is ideal for tracking vehicles, products, and people on the move, with the capability of providing sophisticated mobile solutions incorporating Global Positioning System (GPS) and Vehicle Data Acquisition (VDA). V-Comm is also compatible with a range of mobile communications solutions including GSM cellular telephone and RAM Mobile Data.

COMMUNICATIONS GPS Receiver The internal GPS receiver is a Rockwell Microtracker. (Antenna not supplied) Vehicle Data Acquisition (VDA)
The optional VDA module can acquire road speed from most vehicle speed sensors. This signal is also used to derive the distance traveled. In addition, 8 channels of general purpose inputs are provided to monitor other vehicle functions such as doors, security system, etc. Vehicle Power Supply The module will accept a 12v DC nominal input. This powers V-Comm and the controlling Workabout or HC. V-Comm protects itself and the hand-held against voltage spikes and surges found within the vehicle environment. Serial Port All serial ports are 9-way D type connectors. These ports are accessed by the hand held as standard serial devices.
