The HC Printer is a high specification, Epson compatible thermal printer, designed to fit flush into the top expansion port of the HC, or the Docking Station expansion port. An integral, rechargeable battery provides power for the print mechanism, sufficient to print on up to 30 meters of paper (assuming 15% dot to gap ratio). The design features a patented 'easy-load' mechanism that allows replacement paper rolls to be dropped into place without having to remove the printer from the HC. The thermal print head has an expected life of greater than 30km of paper and has a resolution of 384 dots/line (7.6 dots/mm) or 40 text characters/line.
The printer accepts standard 30 meter thermal paper rolls 60mm wide and 50mm in diameter. Settings for different types of thermal paper, of varying sensitivity, can also be selected under software control and the printer is capable of printing on 2-part thermal paper. The printer supports graphics, suitable for special characters such as company trademarks and logos etc. A top of form facility, also used to detect paper out to preserve the life of the head, enables the use of special pre-printed forms for ticketing, or other such applications. Various status messages are provided, by the printer, to inform the user when the printer is out of paper, the cover is open, batteries are low, or the print is complete.
