LABELMATE S-100 & S-200 Label Slitters & Slitting Packages

A LABELMATE Slitter solution is what you need to conveniently make narrow labels. Slitting allows you to print several labels across and then slit them to the desired width. A Slitter can also be used to slit many types of wide labels into multiple narrower ones.

Slitting saves time and money
By slitting labels instead of printing individual narrow ones, you gain three important benefits:

  • Increased throughput / speed of label production;
  • Increased print head life because the print head is being used over more of its width;
  • You can print more labels per ribbon because the print ribbon is being used over more of its width. It all adds up to cost savings and time savings.

LABELMATE Slitters use inexpensive linear snap-off blades and a proprietary system to stabilize the blades and ensure a uniform cut at all slitting speeds.

In-Line and Off-Line Slitting
There are two methods of label slitting using a LABELMATE Slitter: 1) In-line and 2) Off-line.

  • With In-Line Slitting, the Slitter is placed directly at the output of the printer. The slitting occurs as the labels exit the printer and pass through the Slitter before they are wound up onto your label rewinder. In-Line slitting is suitable only for occasional slitting where you are using no more than two blades.

  • In Off-Line Slitting, the printing and slitting operations are separate. First, you print and rewind your labels normally. Then you bring the rewound roll to your LABELMATE Off-Line Slitting Station. Off-Line slitting is more efficient in a production situation than In-Line slitting. For one thing, you can run your printing operation continuously without having to stop to set up the Slitter for each print job or label roll. In addition, the set-up of the Slitter is easier because you are not concerned with printer alignment or the printer starting and stopping. LABELMATE’s moneysaving Off-Line Slitting Station Packages consist of a Label Unwinder where you put the roll to be slit, the Label Slitter itself, and a Label Rewinder to wind up the multiple rolls of labels after they pass through the Slitter plus accessories.

In both In-Line and Off-Line Slitting, your LABELMATE Label Rewinder pulls the label web through the slitting blades.

How to Select a Slitting Solution

  • How wide is the Label Web you want to slit?

    • Up to 6" wide, use a Model S-100 Slitter or Slitter Package;
    • For wider widths up to 10", use a Model S-200 Slitter or Slitter Package.
  • For occasional In-Line Slitting at the output of your printer with no more than two cuts, you can use either Model S-100 or S-200. For more blades or volume production slitting applications, select an Off-Line Slitting Packages. These complete solutions will save you money and provide everything you need for slitting.
  • Next, choose your Rewinder Model. Choose a CAT-2-CHUCK (6” width), a CAT-2-CHUCK-10 (up to 10” width), or CAT-40G-NSA Rewinder that includes a “Quick-Chuck”™ quick-locking Core Chuck. The Core Chuck will grip and release your individual narrow label cores all at once, providing the maximum convenience in placing and removing your cores and label rolls. The small MINI-CAT Rewinders, Models MC-10A and MC-11, are not suitable for slitting.

  • To keep the slit label rolls from interleaving or sticking together, and to make them easy to remove from the Rewinder when slitting is finished, you need Label Separator Plates. We recommend Metal Separator Plates for the inner and outer Plates and a thin Plastic Separator Plate in-between each label roll.

  • We also suggest ordering a set of replacement High-Speed Slitting Blades, Part No. HSB-10, along with your Slitter. These blades are very sharp, longlife blades made in Solingen, Germany, long known for fine cutting instruments. Ten blades are supplied in a handy plastic dispenser for convenience and safety.

LABELMATE Self-Powered Off-Line Slitter S-100-SP

The new LABELMATE S-100-SP Self-Powered Label Slitter simplifies label slitting by providing powered Pinch Rollers to pull the labels through the Cutting Blades rather than having to rely on the Label Rewinder to pull the labels. This results in a constant cutting speed and means you can rewind using any LABLEMATE Rewinder equipped with a “Quick-Chuck.” You adjust the slitting speed right on the S-100-SP. Because the S-100-SP is selfpowered, you can reliably use more Cutting Blades than on a Slitter that is powered by a Rewinder. You can add additional BH-1 Blade Holders for a total of up to five across the maximum label width of 6” (152-mm).
The S-100-SP is a great choice for the most reliable low-cost label slitting.

Complete LABELMATE Off-Line Slitting Packages

By far the most convenient and efficient slitting solution available is the Complete Off-Line Slitting Package. What’s more, the Slitting Packages are priced at an attractive discount compared to the cost of the individual items in the Package. Refer to the table below and on the next page for details of the many available configurations.

The TWIN-CAT-2-CHUCK Label Rewinder has two powered spindles with quick locking “Quick-Chuck”™ Core Chucks to provide more power and more convenience in multi-Core rewind situations.,

In desktop slitting applications, you normally must place the individual Rewind Cores onto a single shaft and worry about placing Separator Plates in between each one to keep the labels from overlapping. Now, with the TWIN-SLIT Package, you can just place each successive Core on the opposite spindle, which not only saves time but is also much easier. You don’t need to use Separator Plates between the slit rolls, as the rolls are not immediately adjacent to each other.

Individual Label Slitters, Separator Plates and Parts

Slitters require a CAT-2-CHUCK or TWIN-CAT-2 Rewinder to pull the Label Web through the cutting blades.
Use a Label Slitter to conveniently produce narrow labels. Print them several across ("up") and then slit them to the desired width. "In-Line" slitting at the output of your printer usually works fine for labels 2- or 3-up.

For more than 3-blades you should always use an Off-Line Slitting Station for convenience and to avoid label registration problems. Off-Line Slitting Stations are also preferred for production applications.
