Intermec Hot Roll Steel Labels -
Steel Industry Tags
Intermec's steel industry
tags support a variety of applications including product and inventory
tracking, order processing, shipping, and customer verification at time
of receipt. When printed using an Intermec Super Premium ribbon, images
remain readable even after being immersed in mineral spirits,
antifreeze, alcohol, hexane, methanol and gasoline.
Steel companies manufacture
rolls of steel under very difficult conditions, including high heat and
chemical baths. In the past, inventory control and product tracking were
done manually by searching through handwritten logs. Steel rolls were
hand marked with chalk. This marking method was temporary and unreliable
as chalk markings faded, disappeared in severe weather or could be wiped
off.
Rolls of steel emerge from
the manufacturing process at temperatures of 200°F to 25°F. In some
cases, the rolls of hot steel are doused in rust-inhibiting solvent
"baths". The label is eventually removed by customers who convert the
roll of steel to an end product.
To meet requirements, the
steel industry needed a label that could be applied to high temperature
steel soaked in chemicals, yet one that would not leave an adhesive
residue. It was imperative that no residue be left on the steel rolls
because it can cause damage to tooling. If adhesive residue is present,
that portion of the steel is scrapped. The label typically remains on
the product from three months to one year.
