When a gas utilities meter reader visits a home they bring along a wireless handheld terminal and a Cognitive Code Ranger 2" portable printer. With these tools, the meter reader will be able to input the amount of gas used and then print a receipt on the spot.

The result is better customer service for gas utilities customers. As soon as the meter is read, data is input into the handheld computer and information is relayed back to the vehicle via 802.11b wireless communications. The Code Ranger then prints a receipt for the customer which the field technician leaves with the customer.
